Contentment Gained
Troubles, anxiety, worry, purpose lost,
we strain. Joyful contentment stolen,
we inherit what stains. Satisfaction
not gained, we struggle to be free.
Troubles from every side, hopelessness
decrees.
Faltering in times of despair, weakness
reproves. Weakened beyond belief,
anguished, we cry for relief.
Awakened to reality’s despair, we
discover prayer. Exposed as pathetic,
anemic souls, we face truth.
Faltering from one crisis to
another, we look for hope. Seeking an
anchor for weariness, we look beyond.
Humbly admitting self-centered ways
produce chaos, Hope sets a different
direction with much to gain.
Contentment realized, midstream, we
change mindsets. Accepting what can’t
be changed, we look for purpose.
Finding purpose, despair gives way to
contentment. Joyful in all things,
contentment gained, we give praise.
Finally,
brothers and sisters, whatever is true,
whatever is noble, whatever is right,
whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is admirable—if anything is
excellent or praiseworthy—think about
such things.

situation, whether well fed or hungry,
whether living in plenty or in want. ¹³
