Wielding
the Sword of the Spirit
Staring into space, many stumble, ignoring
the sword’s power. As the enemy comes to
seduce and destroy, they stand humiliated.
Unable to wield a sword with such potential,
they stand intimidated. Like babes,
nursing mother’s milk, they stand naked
before their enemy. What will it take to
pick up this powerful weapon and use it,
they muse?
Tired and worn down from
the enemy’s tactics, they consider.
Hearing God’s word is sharper than a
two-edged sword; they’re drawn. Pondering
whether to pick it up or not, they consider
where to begin. How to train hands for
war, putting the enemy to flight, they
ponder. Having begun in the Spirit,
asking for wisdom, they’re drawn to its
power.
Line upon line, here a little,
there a little, it begs to be assessed.
As honey touches the lips, the soul longs to
be nurtured and caressed. With words
fitly spoken, His word fills with wisdom
from above. As the Spirit guides through
the pages, their minds are renewed. As
present truth establishes, new strength with
confidence exudes.
No longer
intimidated, swords drawn, they cut asunder.
Words of wisdom flowing freely, his tactics
no longer plunder. Wisdom from above
filling heart and mind, the sword sharpens.
Without truth, nowhere to stand, truth slays
Satan’s empty insults. Sharper than
two-edged swords, Word and Spirit slay as
they consult.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living, and
active, and sharper than any two-edged
sword, and piercing even to the dividing
of soul and spirit, of both joints and
marrow, and quick to discern the
thoughts and intents of the heart.
Prayer
Heavenly
Father,
I ask
that you
give me
a heart
like
David,
who
loved
Your
word and
what it
could do
for him.
Help me
to pick
up my
sword
daily as
I hide
its
contents
away in
my
heart.
Help me
never
take it
for
granted.
Give me
the
heart to
study to
show
myself
approved
as a
skilled
swordsman
who is
unafraid
of the
enemy’s
devices.
