Dining with Jesus
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand
at the door and knock. If anyone hears
My voice and opens the door, I will come
into Him and dine with him, and he with
Me.
One of the
more intimate pictures of Jesus and His
disciples is that of the last supper. As
the disciples dine with their Master,
His beloved disciple, John, leans upon
Him. We see John as the supreme example
of the Father's intimacy with all His
children throughout the Gospels. The
picture of the last supper illustrates
this perfectly.
The
Father desires that we all come together
in the same level of intimacy these
early disciples experienced with Jesus.
The Scripture above illustrates how we
are all invited to sit at His table to
dine with Him. Just as John leaned upon
Him, He desires us to rely upon Him
daily as we receive all He has to offer
as we sit and dine in His presence.
Just as
we have a seat at our family tables, our
Heavenly Father desires to give us our
very own seat at His table. We enjoy
intimacy with Him and the other family
members from our seats at the Father's
table. Here, we discover our place and
function in this great family.
Whether
you have experienced the intimacy of a
natural family or not is not necessary
to be a part of our Heavenly Father’s
great family. God sets the solitary in
families.
Psalm 68:5-6 A father of the
fatherless, a defender of widows, is God
in His holy habitation. 6 God sets the
solitary in families: He brings out
those who were bound into prosperity,
but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.
John
1:12 But as many as received
Him, to them He gave the right to become
the children of God, to those who
believe in His name.
We must
never forget that God, the Father, seats
and arranges us around His table. He is
intimately acquainted with all our ways
and knows those we need to be seated
with. He knows what our gifts and
talents are and what it takes for them
to come to fruition.
1 Corinthians 12:18 But now God
has set the members, each one of them,
in the body just as He has pleased.
From the
place or position, the Father placed us
in; we minister one to another as good
stewards of the manifold grace of God.
As we faithfully and continually
minister from this position, regardless
of our season, He continuously supplies
and provides for our needs from His
treasure house.
Psalm
36:8 They are abundantly
satisfied with the fullness of Your
house, and You give them drink from the
river of Your pleasures.
